In June 2024, I received my first commercial design commission from Guangzhou Yuanchuan Energy Technology Co., tasked with creating a logo for trademark registration. I began by analyzing the company’s name—“yuanchuan,” meaning “source and river.” My earliest design was a mountain-and-stream logo, reflecting continuity and growth, which the client admired. Yet I kept iterating: a lightning motif that proved too cluttered, a circular design to represent renewable cycles, and finally, a letterform “RR” inspired by both the company’s English initials and the flowing strokes of the Chinese character “chuan.” After rounds of revision, the company adopted two versions—both the mountain-stream graphic and the double-R logo.
